Axis Bank - Corporate Communications - Mumbai

Function: Corporate Communications

Reporting to: Senior Vice President (Strategy)

Department Overview: Corporate Communications is responsible for public relations, media relations and advising senior management on communications issues.

Main function of the role:

Support Axis Bank with proactive, thoughtful communication strategies and outreach. Assist in the use of a broad range of communications activities to build the image, and protect the good reputation of the Bank among our target audiences.
The function serves as the custodian for Axis Bank with the media. All media related interactions for the Bank and its designated spokespeople are coordinated by this function. 

Main Responsibilities:

a. Public Relations:
As part of this mandate, the function is responsible to create a thought leadership platform for the Bank within the industry.
Creating and updating corporate information about the Bank, its management and the other subsidiaries.
The function offers support during any crisis related activity and works as part of the internal crisis team.

b. Media Relations:
This includes proactive media outreach during the launch of branches, products and services, senior level appointments and highlighting corporate level developments. Additionally, strategize media interactions, comments on industry trends and article placements in an endeavour to create a thought leadership platform for the brand amongst its external stakeholders.

Media relations programme include: developing media strategies for significant business announcements; Identifying news stories and research driven opportunities and selling in to target media; creating and disseminating press releases, Q&As and briefing documents; responding to media questions/requests; organizing media briefings .
Act as point person for and help to direct work of retained PR agency

On a reactive basis, such as media queries that may result in negative connotations for the Bank, the functions work with the concerned to neutralize the tone of the story or in some cases omit Banks presence in the story.
All media monitoring and analysis is spearheaded by this function. The function creates a daily media update that highlights the key developments and news from the previous day.
   

Qualifications /Education:
 - Business degree or equivalent.
 - Degree in mass communications

Experience:

 - Communications background, ideally gained in-house. Candidates from agencies with a strong financial services practice will also be considered.

 - Solid financial services industry knowledge and experience,

 - Preferably in retail banking.

Skills and Aptitude:

 - Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 - Track record in driving a communications and PR agenda

 - A natural relationship builder with the ability and credibility to interact with staff at all levels and in all functions

 - Self motivated with a strong results and action orientation

 - Ability to mix strategic thinking with practical “hands-on” application
